Genetics and Disease Prognosis
The outcome of a disease is dependent on both clinical and molecular condition
Prognosis is the predicted outcome of a disease. Prognosis of a disease depends on individual patients’ clinical and molecular condition. Prognosis has been decided largely according to clinical criteria. However, with the arrival of the age of personalized medicine, molecular or genetic signature has been gaining importance.

The use of molecular signatures for disease outcome prediction
More and more molecular markers have been shown to associate with disease outcomes. One such example is MammaPrint, which can identify early-stage breast cancer patients who are at risk of distant recurrence following surgery. Its prognostic power is derived from the analysis of the expression profile of 70 genes.
